Rediscover youthful contours and facial harmony – Ultrasound-guided facial volumisation with hyaluronic acid
Over the years, our face naturally changes. Collagen and elastin production decreases, while the subcutaneous tissue that once provided natural support for the skin gradually diminishes and descends under the influence of gravity. As a result, the facial contour becomes less defined, the cheeks may appear hollow and folds and wrinkles become deeper. If you have noticed these changes and would like to restore a rested, radiant and visibly more youthful appearance without invasive surgery, facial volumisation with hyaluronic acid may be the right treatment for you. To improve safety, optimise the result and minimise the amount of filler required – and therefore the cost of the procedure – we perform the treatment under ultrasound guidance.
Our clinic offers professional facial contouring using high-quality certified products, helping us achieve natural, harmonious and, above all, safe results tailored to your unique anatomy.
What exactly is facial volumisation?
Facial volumisation, often referred to by specialists as a “facelift without a scalpel”, is an advanced aesthetic medicine procedure. Its main purpose is to restore lost facial volume, correct asymmetries and improve skin firmness.
The procedure involves the precise administration of a dense, cross-linked hyaluronic acid filler into the deeper layers of the skin or subcutaneous tissue. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body and is responsible for binding water and maintaining appropriate levels of skin hydration and elasticity. By using a specially formulated, dense product, we can effectively contour facial features: enhance the cheekbones, define the jawline and correct the shape of the chin, achieving a subtle lifting effect.
When is the treatment recommended? (indications)
Facial volumisation is an excellent solution both for mature patients who want to reduce visible signs of ageing and for younger patients who wish to improve facial proportions and enhance definition. It is important to choose a clinic that prioritises precision and procedural safety by using ultrasound technology. The treatment is particularly worth considering if you are concerned about any of the following:
- Loss of facial contour: The appearance of so-called “jowls”, where sagging skin in the lower face reduces jawline definition.
- Volume loss and hollow cheeks: Loss of subcutaneous fatty tissue can make the face appear tired, sad and older.
- Poorly defined cheekbones: A desire to enhance natural facial features and create greater three-dimensional definition and a slimmer appearance.
- A recessed or disproportionate chin: A need to improve the profile and harmonise overall facial proportions.
- Deep nasolabial folds and marionette lines: Restoring tissue volume and lifting the mid-face can significantly soften these established lines.
- Facial asymmetry: A desire to reduce visible differences between the left and right sides of the face.
What does the treatment involve step by step?
We understand that deciding to undergo a procedure that affects your appearance may be associated with some stress. That is why, at our clinic, we make every effort to ensure that the entire process is as comfortable, safe and easy to understand as possible.
- Detailed consultation: Every procedure is preceded by a thorough medical history and an analysis of your facial proportions. Together, we discuss your expectations, select the appropriate product and establish a treatment plan. Our aim is never to drastically change your features, but to refresh and enhance them naturally. The consultation includes three elements: 1. Clinical examination, 2. 3D visualisation using the AURA system, 3. Ultrasound examination of the soft tissues to identify any previously administered fillers or biostimulators and accurately assess the patient’s vascular anatomy.
- Preparation and anaesthesia: To minimise possible discomfort, approximately 30-40 minutes before the procedure, a strong topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area. In addition, the hyaluronic acid products we use contain lidocaine, making the procedure itself very well tolerated.
- Injection procedure: An experienced doctor uses a very fine needle or cannula – a specially designed blunt-tipped instrument that moves through the tissues while helping to minimise the risk of bruising and vascular injury – to precisely deposit the product at selected points of the face.
- Contouring: After targeted administration of hyaluronic acid under ultrasound guidance, the specialist gently massages the treated area. This helps the product settle evenly within the tissues and allows the desired facial contour to be achieved. After the procedure, the treatment result is also assessed using ultrasound.
- Completion and return to daily activities: The injection process itself is relatively short and usually takes between 20 and 40 minutes. Immediately afterwards, you can return to your daily activities – the treatment does not usually require time away from work or a lengthy recovery period.
Contraindications to facial volumisation
Although hyaluronic acid is highly biocompatible and generally well tolerated by the body, there are certain circumstances in which the treatment should be avoided or postponed. To ensure the highest level of safety, facial volumisation is not performed in the following cases:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Known hypersensitivity or allergy to hyaluronic acid or anaesthetic agents such as lidocaine.
- Active bacterial, viral or fungal skin infections, including herpes or severe active acne, in the planned treatment area.
- Uncontrolled autoimmune diseases (prior approval from the treating doctor may be required).
- Active cancer and periods of chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
- A tendency to develop hypertrophic or keloid scars.
- Blood clotting disorders or the use of strong anticoagulant medication.
How should you care for your skin after the treatment? (post-treatment recommendations)
The first visible effects of facial volumisation can be seen immediately after the procedure. However, the final result usually stabilises over approximately 2 to 4 weeks. During this time, the hyaluronic acid binds water and settles within the tissues. The effects of facial volumisation are long-lasting and usually remain visible for around 12 to 18 months, depending on individual predisposition and lifestyle. To maintain the results for as long as possible, the following recommendations should be followed carefully:
- For the first 24 hours: Avoid strenuous physical activity, alcohol and applying make-up to the injection area to allow the injection sites to heal safely. Try not to touch your face with your hands.
- For 3 to 5 days: Avoid sleeping on your stomach with your face pressed into the pillow. Sleeping on your back is preferable to avoid unnecessary pressure on the treated areas.
- For at least 2 weeks: Avoid saunas, solariums, hot baths and direct exposure to strong sunlight. High temperatures may accelerate the degradation of hyaluronic acid. Also avoid swimming pools due to the risk of infection, and refrain from facial massage, cosmetic treatments and laser procedures in the treated area.
- Maintain good hydration: Remember to drink plenty of water, ideally around 2-2.5 litres per day. Adequate hydration supports the skin and may help maintain the effects of hyaluronic acid treatment.
Do not wait for the passage of time to affect how you feel about your appearance. Take care of yourself today and enjoy a more rested, harmonious and defined facial contour.
