LED Therapy – the return of a classic in regenerative medicine

Aesthetic medicine is constantly seeking innovative solutions. At the same time, some proven treatments are experiencing a revival due to their effectiveness and minimal invasiveness. One such method is LED therapy (Light Emitting Diodes), using diodes originally developed by the American space agency NASA. Since the first experiments conducted in space, numerous studies have confirmed its effectiveness. Today, this treatment method is one of the most commonly used in regenerative therapy. We are also using it increasingly often at Dr Parda Clinic in Piaseczno.

How does LED therapy work?

LED light therapy is based on light-emitting diode technology used to stimulate fibroblast activity. This leads to faster and more effective collagen synthesis. It also increases cell viability by intensifying cellular ATP production and stimulates the middle phase of the remodelling process, supporting more intensive production of organised collagen fibres. In this way, phototherapy stimulates the skin’s natural tissue renewal processes. In addition, LED light therapy acts on different layers of the skin.

Safety of LED therapy

LED therapy has an excellent safety profile. The method is non-invasive. Unlike procedures that use heat, LED light does not cause thermal damage. As a result, this treatment method may be used in patients with different skin phototypes and on any area of the body.

Applications of LED phototherapy

LED therapy, thanks to the use of different wavelengths, has a wide range of applications. It is generally accepted that red light accelerates cell renewal and repair by increasing collagen and elastin synthesis. As a result, it smooths and densifies the skin while reducing fine wrinkles.

LED lamps can also be used in the treatment of acne, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks and cellulite, as well as, importantly for many patients, in cases of skin damage and difficult-to-heal wounds. In aesthetic medicine, LED phototherapy may be used both as a stand-alone method and as an enhancement to other procedures, such as chemical peels.

LED light therapy is also used in the treatment of hair loss. According to some scientific reports, it may stimulate the regrowth of new hair together with its original pigment. For this reason, LED light treatments may become a new method of preventing greying.

LED light is also used in the treatment of a range of dermatological conditions, such as acne vulgaris or psoriasis. LED light exposure also has analgesic and antidepressant effects.

What does an LED light treatment look like?

An LED light treatment only requires thorough cleansing of the face before it begins, as well as placing special protective goggles over the patient’s eyes. During the treatment, the physician moves the LED lamp along the treatment area. The procedure is completely non-invasive, and many patients also perceive it as relaxing.

The treatment does not require any recovery time. After LED phototherapy, patients do not experience redness, peeling, swelling or pain. The procedure can therefore be performed during a lunch break, with an immediate return to work. For the best results, a series of treatments is recommended.

What types of LED therapy are available at Dr Parda Clinic in Warsaw?

In the LED therapy available at our clinic, we use light at different wavelengths.

These have properties such as:

  • red light: has anti-wrinkle, smoothing and skin-densifying effects, improves skin elasticity and supports regeneration. It also increases fibroblast activity and metabolism, stimulates microcirculation, and promotes collagen and elastin production,
  • blue light: supports the treatment of acne-prone skin by acting directly on the anaerobic bacteria responsible for acne. It also has anti-inflammatory properties,
  • infrared light: helps cleanse the skin of toxins, reduces muscle pain, treats inflammation, and has beneficial effects on the nervous system as well as the cardiovascular system.
