Migraine is often dismissed as if it were just an ordinary headache. However, anyone who has experienced it even once knows that the pain can be so intense that normal functioning becomes virtually impossible. It is often accompanied by nausea and vomiting, as well as increased sensitivity to noise, light and smells. Migraine can effectively disrupt both daily responsibilities and social life.
If left untreated, recurrent migraine attacks may develop into a chronic form requiring regular pharmacological treatment, which is not always effective. Long-term relief from migraine may also be achieved with neurotoxin treatment. The preparation can significantly reduce the occurrence of headaches, lessen their intensity and frequency, and in some cases eliminate them completely. Neurotoxin treatment for migraine is recommended for patients who experience these symptoms at least 15 times per month and for whom symptomatic treatment does not provide sufficient relief.
Before the procedure, the physician determines which muscle groups in the head irritate or compress the nerves responsible for triggering migraine attacks. The neurotoxin is then injected into selected areas, causing muscle relaxation and preventing contractions. The procedure takes around several minutes and is usually painless, although temporary swelling and redness of the skin may occur at the injection sites. Patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately after the treatment.
The first effects are noticeable after just a few days. The result may last for up to six months. More than half of patients report complete resolution of migraine pain, while the remaining patients notice a clear improvement. A major advantage of neurotoxin treatment for migraine is that the body does not become resistant to it over time; on the contrary, with subsequent treatments its effectiveness may increase and the duration of the results may become longer.
