Everything you don't know about Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma has been talked about in aesthetic medicine for a long time, and the popularity of treatments with its use has increased by as much as 25% over the last 5 years. What can our own plasma do for us?

Dr. Chamata, a physician at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and his colleagues reviewed the evidence supporting promising results from PRP use in four key areas:

1) Skin rejuvenation - recently, there has been a lot of interest in the so-called "vampire mask" involving the topical application of PRP in combination with microneedling. This treatment helps to increase collagen production, skin tone and its rejuvenation. Microneedling has also emerged in conjunction with PRP in the treatment of atrophic acne scars and skin pigmentation disorders.

2) Hair regrowth - PRP used alone or in conjunction with hair transplants leads to the formation and maintenance of hair follicles.

3) PRP with laser treatment - treatments combining PRP with laser resurfacing therapy have shown good results in facial rejuvenation and treatment of acne scars. In addition to promoting healing, growth factors provided by PRP can help reduce redness and inflammation caused by laser treatments

4) PRP with fat transplant - fat transplant is another emerging technique in plastic surgery that carries the patient's own fat cells into a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. Some studies have shown dramatic improvements in skin oval and volume by using PRP compared to fat grafting alone.
