VIRGOREXIA - new beauty aftermath of Internet development

The rapid development of the Internet, as well as the intensification of online contacts related to work in the pandemic, contributed to the development of disturbing phenomenas.

The first of them are new body dysmorphs, prelude to which was the Zoom Boom phenomenon. The second is a marked increase in cosmetic interventions, not necessarily performed by a qualified physician, which concerned in particular the use of botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid.

As a result of these new disorders, the term VIRGOREXIA was born to describe a group of patients who exaggerate in all their pursuit of youth and well-being, which is ironically detrimental to their appearance and health. In this way, the excessive pursuit of good looks leads to a vicious cycle that results in poor outcomes and frustration for both the doctor and the patient.
