Mandible oval modeling (hamster cheeks)
We develop “hamster cheeks” (skin folds on the both sides of the chin) as a natural result of aging. In time, skin looses its firmness as a result of the decline of subcutaneous tissue which leads to the softening of the facial features; lax skin seems to “protrude” beyond the face contour. This is particularly visible on the edges of the mandible. More women aged 50+ have excess skin around the mandible.
The mandible line can be straightened up for alleviation of the hamster cheek problem using a number of treatments offered by the aesthetic medicine. The high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) method is one of the most effective and, at the same time, least invasive ones. This method does not require any convalescence. The treatment is also almost painful, so the patient’s discomfort is minimal.
The treatment is recommended to anyone who wishes to improve his or her mandible contour in a non-invasive way. The ultrasonic wave of adequate frequency, focused at the target location and aimed at a specific depth, produces controlled micro-burns in the skin. These injuries initiate the processes of production of collagen and regeneration of tissues. The end result consists of a clear lift-up and improvement of firmness of the skin. The modeling affects tissues on the sides of the chin. The procedure leaves skin surface intact, so the patient can resume his or her daily activities immediately.
The first change in the appearance shows up directly after the treatment but the ultimate result comes within approx. 2 months.
