Skin Regeneration – Why It's So Important
The skin is our largest organ. Its functions include protecting the body, defending against pathogens, and conducting sensory stimuli. Due to direct exposure to harmful external factors, including sunlight, the skin ages faster than other organs. Although this process cannot be stopped, it can be slowed down. This is aided by treatments in aesthetic medicine. What skin regeneration is recommended after summer?
What Affects Skin Aging
The skin aging process is individual and complex. It causes disturbances in many of its functions, such as barrier, sensory perception, immune response, and vitamin D production. Two types of factors influence it – extrinsic (exogenous) and intrinsic (endogenous).
Extrinsic factors include:
- UV radiation exposure;
- exposure to tobacco smoke;
- environmental pollution;
- improper skincare.
Intrinsic factors are:
- hormonal regulation disorders;
- poor diet;
- vitamin deficiencies;
- uncontrolled facial expressions (e.g., due to stress);
- lack of physical activity;
- insufficient sleep.
Skin and the Sun
UV radiation is considered the most harmful of the mentioned factors. It accelerates skin aging, damages the epidermis, and causes skin cancer. Its adverse effects are also intensified by free radicals. Therefore, effective photoprotection is necessary throughout the year, especially in spring and summer and during outdoor activities.
Symptoms of Skin Aging
Compared to other organs, skin aging is not only faster but also more visible. Wrinkles are among the characteristic signs of this process. Other early symptoms of skin aging include excessive dryness, skin laxity, decreased elasticity, and changes in facial contours. How to delay skin aging?
Skin Regeneration in the Clinic – When to Start
Thanks to medical advancements, we are living longer. To also prolong the proper functioning of the skin, we should take special care of it. Apart from the daily routine related to protection and skincare, aesthetic medicine can help slow down its aging.
Specialists emphasize that skin rejuvenation is based on prevention and stimulating its own regenerative capabilities. Thus, it is more effective the younger the body is. This means that the first visit to an aesthetic medicine clinic should not be delayed until deep wrinkles appear. It should be noted that concerns about "laziness" of the skin have no scientific basis.
At Dr. Parda's clinic, depending on the needs, one can undergo both first treatment and advanced procedures. It is worth adding that many aesthetic medicine procedures involve deliberate and controlled damage to problematic areas to stimulate skin regeneration. Among them are the procedures described below.
Peels – For Hyperpigmentation and More
A medical peel is one of the first aesthetic medicine treatments. It involves controlled chemical destruction of the epidermis (with superficial agents) and the dermis (with medium and deep agents). The action of medical peels stimulates the regeneration of the epidermis and dermis and enhances collagen production, lasting up to three months after the treatment.
Procedures using medical peels are a solution for patients with sun damage, hyperpigmentation, teenage acne, or scars.
In our facility, we offer treatments with modern peels, which reduce or completely eliminate hyperpigmentation (sunspots and melasma) and rejuvenate and tighten the skin. The preparations we use include various types of acids or glutathione (a strong antioxidant).
Skin Regeneration with CGF
Treatments with growth factors (Concentrated Growth Factors – CGF) belong to regenerative medicine procedures. Like other treatments using autologous tissues (derived from the patient), these procedures strengthen and direct the body's regenerative processes to stimulate the skin or hair follicles.
Treatments with CGF are performed using the patient's blood, processed in a special cell separator. The resulting preparation is rich in:
- growth factors: proteins that enhance regenerative capabilities and regulate wound healing processes;
- CD34+: hematopoietic stem cells, giving rise to many types of blood cells.
CGF procedures are a solution for patients with wrinkles or lax skin requiring revitalization. The treatments visibly rejuvenate and strongly regenerate the skin. The face looks natural and healthy, with unchanged features.
Procedures using autologous tissues are among the safest methods for skin rejuvenation. This is because the preparation derived from the patient's own body resources is non-allergenic and has no other side effects.
CGF treatments are performed in a series. To enhance effects, they can be used before and after other aesthetic medicine procedures. The doctor performs treatments with a cannula or mesotherapy technique. What distinguishes the latter method?
Firm Skin Thanks to Mesotherapy
Classic mesotherapy involves a series of shallow needle injections and subcutaneous administration of a therapeutic agent. This bypasses the skin barrier, which is impermeable to most substances rubbed into the epidermis with cosmetics. The effects of the treatment are not only due to the agent itself but also the injections, which stimulate regenerative processes.
Mesotherapy is performed, among other things, for wrinkle correction or skin revitalization. It is a treatment that can also be used preventively, as an introduction to aesthetic medicine. The substance or mixture of substances administered during the treatment is individually chosen. Mesotherapy is most often performed in a series. It is one of the safer aesthetic medicine treatments.
Skin Rejuvenation through Microneedling
Microneedling (micro-needle mesotherapy) involves the mechanical puncturing of the skin with very thin needles. This procedure is also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT) because appropriately deep skin injuries cause the formation of new collagen fibers, skin remodeling, and regeneration. Microneedling treatments are performed with various tools. At our clinic, we conduct them using the Dermapen device.
