Burn scars – how to eliminate them effectively?

Our skin is very susceptible to burns and even a split second of exposure to heat can be enough to damage the tissues irreversibly. In many cases the burn leaves a bad looking scar. In this case it is important to react quickly and take measures to minimize the damage. But what to do if, after all, the lesion on the skin stays there for good? An aesthetic medicine procedure, which does not have to be difficult or complicated to perform, can be an answer.

How do burn scars develop?

An exposure to a temperature of just 55°C is enough to cause an irreversible damage to tissue proteins. If the temperature is higher than 70°C, even a one-second contact with a hot object can make the tissue necrotic. It is very easy to get burned even while doing our daily activities, such as cooking. Unless we respond quickly enough by trying to “extract” excess heat from the skin by cooling it with cold water or an ice pack, the wound can heal longer and the process can leave a scar. Typically, the scar has the form of a keloid or tissue overgrowth. Initially, the scar is reddish and can remain such for a few, up to more than a dozen, months. This time depends on the skin area affected and on the degree of the burn. In addition, this area becomes bulgy and hard. The scar gets smoother in time but, still, remains visible. This can be a major aesthetic problem, particularly if the affected area cannot be covered by clothes or is more extensive.

How to stimulate the healing of scars?

Many can benefit from professional skin care using purpose-formulated ointments or gels. Such preparations help to soothe, smoothen and fade post-burn lesions. Also adequate hydration of skin is essential. Another popular solution is adhesive silicone bandages designed for both scar development prevention and for burn wound care. Such bandages can conceal the scar and alleviate the unpleasant “skin pulling” sensation. However, know that creams or ointments is often not enough and not all scars can or may be treated this way. Certain cases require special cosmetic treatments, such as peeling or microdermabrasion, while aesthetic medicine procedures are the most effective ones in the eradication of burn scars.

Aesthetic medicine for burn scars

High effectiveness combined a marginal risk of complications is the main advantage of aesthetic medicine procedures. Laser therapies are ranked among the best solutions as they are capable of restoring healthy skin at the burn location. The therapy using the eCO2 fractional laser device is one of the latest methods of this type. This treatment provides a high-impact regeneration of skin and effectively eradicates burn scars. Impulses of laser light emitted by the device cause micro-damages to the skin, after which old cells are replaced with new ones. This regeneration is further stimulated by natural production of collagen fibers, which makes the skin healthier and smoother within a few weeks. The scar healing process depends on the depth and size of the lesion. Typically, two to four irradiation sessions are required for significant resorption of the scar. Further, there are two other recommended therapies: the RF INFINI electrofulguration for extensive scars and the LINERASE mesotherapy for smaller and benign ones.
