Laser therapy – why autumn and winter
Laser therapy is widely used in aesthetic medicine. Thanks to the continuous development of devices, laser treatments are increasingly effective and safer for the patient. Although some procedures can be performed year-round, autumn and winter are considered the best time for closing vessels or for laser facial rejuvenation. Why?
What is laser therapy
The word "laser" is an acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. In simple terms, laser therapy can be defined as treatment with light. However, lasers emit light with specific properties, including a particular wavelength, very high energy in a short time, and parallel beams. These characteristics allow for selective, effective, and precise interaction with the skin.
Laser therapy in aesthetic medicine
Lasers were first used in dermatology in the 1960s. Today, it's hard to imagine aesthetic medicine without laser therapy.
Currently, we use lasers for indications such as:
- sagging skin,
- wrinkles,
- vascular changes,
- rosacea,
- hyperpigmentation,
- scars,
- stretch marks,
- unwanted hair.
When is the best time to perform laser treatments
The laser season is considered to be from autumn to early spring. This is due to the fact that areas treated with laser should be protected from UV radiation, which contributes to many treated problems and does not favor recovery after the procedure.
In autumn and winter, we are also not exposed to other factors that hinder skin healing, such as chlorinated pool water, excessive air humidity, or heat. Starting laser treatment in the autumn-winter months also allows for planning the optimal number of sessions for each patient.
Closing vessels with laser
At Dr. Parda's clinic, we conduct both year-round and seasonal laser therapy procedures. Among the latter are treatments for vascular changes. In therapy for such problems, we use a high-energy laser system that allows closing vessels on the face and legs, removing flat hemangiomas, calming rosacea, and treating acne rosacea.
During the vessel closing procedure, a reaction of selective photothermolysis occurs. This means that hemoglobin (the pigment in red blood cells) captures laser radiation more than the surrounding tissues. As a result, there is rapid heating and irreversible destruction and absorption of the vessel.
The contact cooling with sapphire glass used in the device ensures comfort during the procedure, minimizes the risk of complications, and shortens the recovery time.
The results of the therapy are visible after the first treatment. To close some vessels, it may be necessary to repeat the procedure.
Laser facial rejuvenation
We also use lasers for skin rejuvenation of the face and body. In this indication, the CO2 laser is effective. The device we use is referred to as the Mercedes among CO2 lasers.
We use it for problems such as:
During the CO2 laser treatment, the light beam "punctures" the skin with thousands of micro-craters, leaving intact skin between them. From these areas begins an intense healing process, during which new collagen is produced and the skin regenerates.
The treatment is safe for the patient. It does not cause discomfort and does not require a long recovery period. Thanks to the procedure, we reduce fine lines, minimize pores, improve the texture and firmness of the skin. By being more aggressive, we can eliminate deep wrinkles and scars, including keloids.
The first results of the procedure are visible after 3 days, and the full effect – within 6 months, during which the skin gradually regenerates. We usually recommend repeating the treatment.
