Failed hyaluronic acid lip enhancement - what to do in this situation?

Large and pronounced lips are the dream of many women. Hence, the popularity of hyaluronic acid lip augmentation is no surprise. However, it's crucial to exercise great caution in choosing a place for the procedure, as hyaluronic acid in unqualified hands can lead to serious consequences. But what should you do if you have decided to undergo a procedure aimed at beautification, and the result turned out to be completely different?

What Should You Know Before Undergoing the Procedure?
Lip modeling with hyaluronic acid is not only performed to enlarge the lips. It is often used to correct asymmetry or restore proper hydration levels. Despite this, most women who opt for such a treatment desire enlarged lips. Full lips are considered sensual and can add attractiveness to the face. There are also women naturally endowed with very thin lips, and in their case, the procedure can improve facial feature harmony. Lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid is also performed in mature individuals, where aging leads to lip laxity. In addition to the lips becoming thinner, the corners of the mouth also begin to droop, forming a down-turned “horseshoe” shape, causing a sad and tired facial appearance. All these reasons lead many women to opt for improving this area. However, it is very important that the procedure is performed by the right person, i.e., a doctor, who not only precisely administers the product but also chooses the right dosage and ensures that the effect is natural and harmonizes with the patient's facial features. Almost everyone has seen poorly done lips, whether "in real life" or in photos circulating on the Internet. Although it may seem that injecting a specific dose into designated places is not complicated, the procedure is not as simple as it appears. Administering an inappropriate amount of the product or allergic reactions to one of the ingredients happen more often than one might think.

Clinic or Beauty Salon?
Currently, media and the nonexistent ideal of female beauty portrayed in them exert great pressure. Many women want to resemble famous celebrities and beauties from Instagram, where the trend for large lips prevails. However, we often fail to realize that what looks good in photos may not necessarily look as good in reality. Additionally, the appearance of these people is often the result of makeup and photo post-production in graphic programs. Although much is said about this, from time to time we hear about cases where women consciously decided on lip augmentation and suffered serious consequences. Many of them took advantage of "deals," finding promotional prices offered on group portals, where the procedure cost several times less than in an aesthetic medicine clinic. It is important to bear in mind that lip augmentation can only be performed by a doctor, as only they are authorized to do so. A beautician or cosmetologist does not have medical knowledge, so they cannot help in the event of complications and the need for an appropriate response. Another issue to remember is that professional companies distributing registered preparations do not sell them to unauthorized persons. This means that a procedure performed by someone who is not a doctor will be carried out with an unverified preparation of unknown origin.

What to Do if the Procedure Was Incorrectly Performed?
Severe cases of complications may require hospitalization. Therefore, do not underestimate any discomfort, apart from those about which the doctor warned us and which constitute a normal reaction to hyaluronic acid. However, if the swelling or bruising increases, the swelling does not subside after a few days, we feel severe pain or hypersensitivity, it is necessary to consult a doctor. In the event of an allergic reaction or inflammation, action should be taken as quickly as possible. The breakdown of hyaluronic acid can be accelerated by using hyaluronidase. This enzyme works immediately after administration, reducing the excessive amount of hyaluronic acid or dissolving the incorrectly chosen product. It is also used when lumps or irregularities have formed after hyaluronic acid injection, or when the product has been accidentally injected into a blood vessel.
