Ptosis - eyelids and eyebrows drooping after botox
We observe more and more disturbing signals and questions from patients, concerning complications after botox procedure done in not proper way or low quality preparation, especially in case of ptosis.
Adverse event of botox can be drooping of eyelids or/and eyebrow. This happens, when eyebrow or eyelid is weakening, causing drooping or mask look. Botox can cause heaviness feeling and lack of possibility of moving in this area. It is estimated that only 5 percent of patients suffer from this reason, but it looks that serious cases are more frequent, because demand for botox is growing, and patients are overflowed with cheap offers.
Botox is prescription medication and can be applied only by the doctor in professional clinic. This is why one should precisely analyse an offer and check the origination of preparation, before we decide on the procedure.
Ptosis usually appears after appr. 3 days from injection. Botox is a toxin, which act through casual muscles paralysis from 3 to 6 months. Sometimes botox can spread for other areas around this one which was treated. Main reasons are:
- the substance is over-adulterated with saline,
- injections are made too close or too low to eyebrows,
- person applying botox is not experienced and doesn’t inject the preparation in right places,
- not proportioned botox dose,
- non-observance of prescriptions.
Helpful will be eye drops (iopidine, unfortunately not available in Poland), but patient can also try to balance asymmetry with botox, to lift eyebrows again, and in result – eyelids. Of course, it must be applied by the professional in clinic.
If someone experienced such bad situation, she or he will should not be discouraged to botox. Everything is for people, but let’s keep common sense. Here we underline again right choice of specialist and place, where we will have procedure applied. It would be perfect, if it is aesthetic medicine doctor, who works in sterile clinic. There is nothing bad in question about her/his experience and certificates. You have sacred right. Price is also important. If you get offer with “promotion of the week” and low price, the red alert in your head should light.
In our Clinic we try to minimise the risk of complications, because here there is patient first and his safety.
