Treatment of excessive hand sweating

Excessive sweating is the cause of daily discomfort for many people. Excessive sweating of hands is a particularly embarrassing problem, as it adversely affects people’s social lives or business activities. In some cases, it may even hinder such fundamental movements as writing, using touchscreens. The problem often has a genetic background; therefore, people who suffer from hyperhidrosis will often observe its first symptoms in their childhood, and the symptoms tend to increase in intensity with age. However, treatment of excessive hand sweating is very effective today, and there are lots of methods available to people affected by that condition.

Botox treatment is highly successful in eliminating hyperhidrosis in the hand area. This treatment involves an application of a toxin to affected body areas. The exact locations to be treated are determined using the Minor test, where iodine is applied on a body part and then covered with starch. The color of the substances will change at the excessive sweating spots. Botox activity stops the release of acetylcholine, an impulse transmitter from nerves to muscles. Consequently, the neural links are blocked and sweat production stops. Results first appear after the first cycle and are maintained up to 6-12 months, depending on specific circumstances.

To improve the patient’s comfort level, injection spots are anesthetized with numbing cream and spray, and chilled with ice. Botox is a hardly invasive and a very safe treatment of excessive hand sweating. Because hand muscles can be temporarily weakened, this treatment is not recommended for patients requiring a lot of manual precision in their jobs, such as clockmakers, professional musicians. These treatments are allowed for use in children and school-aged individuals.
